The Rubicons Come Alive Sing-Along event was a night to remember as founder members Paul Perera and Cecil Palpola were honoured for their contributions. Although Anton Mathew and Nihal Jayawardene couldn’t join the celebration in Nuwara Eliya, their spirit was felt throughout the evening.
The festivities began with a heartfelt thanksgiving mass at the Nazareth Chapel, commemorating the band’s late members. The event then transformed into a musical extravaganza, featuring performances by Old Xaverians Ranjith Tunnard, Susantha Kumara, Mahinda Silva, Calixtus Dissanayake, Kamal Gunaratne, and Dilan Dominic. Special guest artists Ajith Silva(Old Antonian) , Peter Romulus(Old Sebastianite), and Nirmaline Perera also graced the stage.
The audience was treated to a nostalgic journey with hits from legends like Jim Reeves, C.T. Fernando, Nevil Fernando, Olivia Newton-John, The Carpenters, John Denver, The Beatles, Louis Armstrong, ABBA, The Cats, Simon & Garfunkel, Annesly Malawana, Clarence Wijewardene, Desmond de Silva, S.P. Balasubramaniam, Lorrie Morgan, Milton Mallawarachchi, the Dharmaratne brothers, the Flemincos, the Los Cabellros, La Bambas La Ceylonians, Rookantha Gunathilake and H.R. Jothipala.
A packed house shared warm wishes and danced the night away in a lively baila session, leaving everyone with cherished memories. This unforgettable event was organized and sponsored by the St. Xavier’s Old Boys’ Association.
The event was graced by Rev. Fr. Shivantha Rodrigo, Rector of Our Lady’s School, and Rev. Fr. Anthony Paul, Assistant Parish Priest of St. Xavier’s Church. The event was also honoured by the presence of Rev. Sr. Sriya Kanthi, Superior of the Good Shepherd Convent, and Rev. Sr. Nilanka de Silva, Principal of the Good Shepherd Convent, Principal of St Xavier’s College Mr.Mathew Paulraj and Vice Principal Mr.Broodian Keller.
The energetic band Index 33, led by Chathura Fernando, provided the perfect musical backing, and it was comprised with Robert Joseph -vocals and rhythm guitar, Ruchira -percussion, and G on lead guitar.
The OBA organizing committee was led by Suren Swaminathan, Benjamin Jeganathan, UC Emmanuel, RM Nawaz, S.Vincent, Subash Gorden, Vadivel Balendran, Hiran Kodithuwakku, Rohan Peiris, Dilan Dominic, Joy Crooze and Nirmaline Perera.
